Joshua House was founded in 1992 as a result of a tremendous loss suffered by Joshua, the son of the agency’s founder, at the age of 8 years old. As a result of this tragedy, community homes were developed for individuals with a variety of abilities. These homes were envisioned as alternatives to Developmental Centers. This type of community setting is a kinder and more individualized way to provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities. In essence, the intention during the evolution of this agency was to develop settings that would be the best alternative to a family setting – yet providing all the support required to ensure individualized success.
