The Southeast Bronx Neighborhood Centers (SEBNC) is a nonprofit multi-service agency, with strong community roots, that has been serving in the Morrisania section of the Bronx since 1929. We offer programs and services for all ages, including infants, school-aged children, young adults and the developmentally disabled. SEBNC evolved from Council House, a project of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCWJ) that began in the 1930’s. During the early 1940’s the population in the Southeast Bronx shifted dramatically to a predominantly African American constituency. At that juncture, the NCJW invited a group of leaders to assume responsibility for what was then called Forest Neighborhood House. In March of 1971, the Forest Neighborhood House Board of Directors reorganized and reincorporated as Southeast Bronx Neighborhood Centers, Inc. As a member of the United Neighborhood Houses (UNH), SEBNC is guided by the settlement house model of community development and involvement.
